Staff Engineer - Analytics & Data Architecture

The Staff Engineer will own the analytics data layer, design a tiered analytics architecture, solve database performance and scaling challenges, and provide hands‑on technical leadership for the platform’s multi‑quarter evolution.

Requirements

• Deep production experience operating a database or analytical store under concurrent, customer‑facing load, able to reason from query plan to fix
• Strong SQL skills with a mental model of columnar/OLAP execution
• Solid backend engineering experience; ability to read and modify a real codebase (Java stack)
• Data architecture experience designing or shaping a multi‑tier data platform and defending decisions with measurements
• Lakehouse experience (Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake/Iceberg, or comparable)
• Experience designing schemas for wide, semi‑structured event data (nested objects, maps, JSON)
• Streaming ingestion experience (Kafka or similar)
• Track record of a migration or major re‑architecture with cost/latency reasoning
• ClickHouse experience
• Connection‑pool and JDBC‑level tuning experience
• Familiarity with feature‑flagged rollouts of query‑engine behavior changes
• Open‑source contributions to a query engine or related tooling
