About the role
The Senior Backend Software Engineer will be a core contributor to Virtru’s Go‑based backend and the open‑source OpenTDF project, designing and maintaining the services that power the data‑security platform, working on complex enterprise and federal deployments, and collaborating across engineering teams.

Requirements
- 5+ years professional software engineering experience with a focus on backend development.
- Strong proficiency in Go (Golang) and experience building production‑grade, scalable services.
- Experience with microservice and monolithic architectures, APIs (gRPC, REST), and distributed systems.
- Hands‑on experience designing, deploying, and managing containerized applications using Docker and Kubernetes in production, including CI/CD and GitOps pipelines (e.g., Helm, ArgoCD).
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing Infrastructure as Code solutions using Terraform across multi‑cloud environments.
- Ability to independently own complex technical projects from design to deployment.
- Deep experience in cryptography, including primitives, protocols, and secure key management (nice to have).
- Deep understanding of identity federation principles (OIDC, SAML) and experience designing federated trust systems (nice to have).
- Experience architecting and deploying into complex customer environments such as on‑premise, air‑gapped, sovereign clouds, or bare‑metal (nice to have).
- Experience with modern API protocols like ConnectRPC (nice to have).
- Familiarity with container standards and runtimes like the Open Container Initiative (OCI) (nice to have).
- Experience building and maintaining multi‑language SDKs (nice to have).
- Contributions to open‑source projects, especially in security or data space (nice to have).
- Experience with other programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, Python, or Rust (nice to have).
- Active contributor or maintainer of an established open‑source project (nice to have).
- Comfort working with AI coding agents as part of development workflow (nice to have).
