Senior Software Engineer (Infrastructure)

About the role

The senior software engineer (infrastructure) works at the intersection of product code and infrastructure, writing application code that controls infrastructure primitives such as queues, VM management, container updates and security. The role involves building and evolving systems that provision, update, secure and observe Motion’s agent environments, designing abstractions for reliable primitives, expanding Pulumi IaC, and collaborating in a small high‑ownership cross‑functional team.

Requirements

• 6+ years experience as a software engineer with deep infrastructure work
• Strong production backend experience; TypeScript/Node.js ideal
• Deep hands‑on cloud experience, primarily Azure (AWS/GCP transferable)
• Fluency with infrastructure‑as‑code; Pulumi experience (Terraform or CDK also acceptable)
• Hands‑on experience with containers and runtime environments; Docker required, Kubernetes/Nomad/ECS/Docker Swarm helpful
• Experience designing reliable systems around background jobs, queues, locks, service buses, migrations, retries and failure recovery
• Strong security instincts for application runtime environments
• Excited about infrastructure, high ownership mindset, pragmatic shipping approach, comfortable in fast‑moving ambiguous startup, strong individual contributor and supportive teammate
