About the role
Senior Data Scientist supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs Veterans Health Administration, working as an individual contributor on a small team to modernize on‑premises SQL Server/Power BI analytics platforms, build data pipelines, perform statistical and machine‑learning analysis, and deliver business‑intelligence solutions.

Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in data science, data engineering, or advanced analytics; Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or technical field preferred or equivalent experience.
- Advanced SQL skills and hands‑on experience with on‑premises Microsoft SQL Server, including performance tuning.
- Strong Python proficiency for data work, including dataframe manipulation, numerical computing, programmatic charting, and SQL Server connectivity via Python connectors.
- Demonstrated Power BI development experience covering DAX, Power Query, semantic model design, and performance optimization.
- Experience building and maintaining ETL processes using SSIS or comparable tools.
- Applied experience with regression, classification, time‑series forecasting, clustering, dimensionality reduction, and statistical inference/hypothesis testing.
- Working knowledge of version control and Python environment/dependency management.
- Experience assessing existing analytics environments and producing design options with trade‑offs for decision‑makers.
- Ability to document work clearly and communicate analytical findings to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a VA background investigation and PIV credential.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.
