Senior Data Engineer

About the role

The Senior Data Engineer will join a small, high‑impact data engineering team within Federato’s AI/ML organization, building infrastructure and internal frameworks that enable ML engineers to create, deploy and iterate AI‑powered features such as prompt‑based LLM workflows and traditional model‑driven systems, while collaborating with data science, product and engineering partners.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, backend engineering, or related roles focused on data infrastructure
• Proven experience designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines using tools such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect
• Experience with software development practices like version control, CI/CD, and dbt testing strategies
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python; Typescript experience is a plus
• Comfort working with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP) and IaC tools like Terraform
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and work closely with business stakeholders to understand data needs
• Track record of designing high‑impact data products and pipelines in fast‑paced environments
• Prior experience in insurance, fintech, or risk modeling domains (preferred)
• Exposure to MLOps or supporting AI/ML‑driven products (preferred)
• Enthusiasm for building internal tools or frameworks to improve team velocity (preferred)
• Contributions to open‑source data tools or active involvement in the data community (preferred)
