About the role
The Senior Software Engineer, RPG is a hands‑on technical leader within MEDHOST’s fast‑paced healthcare technology division. Reporting remotely from anywhere in the US, you will own complex IBM i/RPG development and modernization projects, ensure code quality, troubleshoot production issues, mentor junior developers, and contribute to architecture and design while adhering to MEDHOST engineering standards.

Requirements
- Master's degree in a related computer or engineering field with 3 years experience or Bachelor’s degree with 5 years experience
- 7+ years of commercial product development experience
- Proficiency in at least two of: RPG & CL, DB2 SQL, SQL procedures and user‑defined functions
- Solid understanding of object‑oriented programming and SOLID design principles
- Experience with agile development in a geographically distributed environment
- Past technical responsibility for shipping a software product (consulting experience not counted)
- Comprehensive knowledge of unit, system, integration and performance testing
- Strong interpersonal, communication and independent work skills
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and technical writing abilities
- Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor others
- Recommended knowledge of cross‑platform development
- Required experience with software version control
- Deep experience with RPGLE/RPG IV, CL, Db2 for i, SQL, IBM i application development, JSON, REST integrations, secure development, Agile delivery and controlled change management
- Experience using AI‑assisted application development tools and techniques
