Job description

About the role

The R&D Management Trainee program is for recent graduates entering the engineering workforce, embedding them in a product engineering team to build production features, maintain systems, and grow into engineers who independently own modules and make technical decisions across product areas such as Order Tracking, Loyalty & Referrals, Pop‑up & Email Marketing, AI Chat, and SEO & Speed.

About the company

CWILL (pronounced 'quill') is a post‑purchase and retention SaaS suite for Shopify brands that reduces support tickets, recovers lost revenue from returns, and turns one‑time buyers into loyal fans with tools for every post‑sale touchpoint.

Requirements

  • Recent graduate from a US university (BS or MS) or within 1–2 years of graduation
  • Proficiency in at least one backend language: JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java, Go, or PHP
  • Understanding of web fundamentals: HTTP, RESTful API design, frontend‑backend interaction, and relational databases
  • Basic SQL and database knowledge (MySQL or PostgreSQL)
  • Ability to read documentation, debug systematically, and own work through completion
  • Reliable and communicative; surface problems early and follow through on commitments
  • Experience with React, Node.js, Next.js, NestJS, Python, PostgreSQL, or Redis (nice to have)
  • AI/LLM project experience such as prompt engineering, RAG, knowledge bases, chatbots, or content generation (nice to have)
  • Shopify app development, independent store tech, SEO tools, or SaaS product experience (nice to have)
  • Internship at a tech or SaaS company; open source contributions or personal project portfolio (nice to have)
  • Familiarity with Docker, CI/CD, or cloud services like AWS or Aliyun (nice to have)
  • Active GitHub profile with consistent commit history (nice to have)
  • Competitive programming background (e.g., ACM, LanQiao Cup) (nice to have)
  • Experience with AI‑assisted development tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, or Claude Code (nice to have)
  • Mandarin Chinese communication ability (nice to have)
