Principal AI Platform Engineer

About the role

The Principal AI Platform Engineer will be the founding technical leader of a new AI Platform team, defining the vision and roadmap for a shared AI infrastructure that powers all AI‑enabled features. The role combines product development and platform engineering, partnering with product and engineering leaders, building customer‑facing AI experiences, platformizing them, and mentoring senior engineers across the organization.

Requirements

• 12+ years experience building and operating large‑scale distributed systems, with several years leading architecture of platform or infrastructure products used by multiple teams
• 2+ years hands‑on experience taking LLM‑based systems to production, including model integration, routing, retrieval/agent architectures, evaluation harnesses and cost/latency/quality optimization
• Strong hands‑on coding skills in a mainstream backend language such as Python or Go, and deep experience with Kubernetes and cloud infrastructure (AWS and/or GCP)
• Strong product acumen with experience building world‑class customer‑facing products, translating customer needs into technical decisions and engaging business stakeholders
• Proven track record as a tech lead of cross‑team initiatives with ambiguous requirements, turning vague business goals into a sequenced technical roadmap
