Full Stack Software Engineer - Community

About the role

As a member of the small, generalist Community Team, you will design and ship frontend, backend, and occasional mobile features that help creators manage their communities and enable deeper user connections, collaborating across design, writing, and support while operating autonomously.

Substack is building a new economic engine for culture by providing a publishing platform that lets creators earn directly through subscriptions, giving them economic autonomy, creative ownership, and direct audience connection.

Requirements

• At least 7+ years of software engineering experience.
• Independent and autonomous; able to own work and lead without micromanagement.
• Hold yourself and others to a high standard when working on production systems.
• Take pride in building elegant and delightful product experiences.
• Enjoy collaboration with a diverse group of thinkers and bring unique experience and background.
• Believe in Substack’s mission to build a better business model for writing.
• Experience working with machine learning technology would be beneficial.
• Experience at a fast‑growing startup or high‑performing growth team is a plus.
