About the role

The Data Services Engineer (DSE) supports Catalist’s clients and partners by building custom data products such as reports, data processing pipelines and digital integrations, while also leading cross‑departmental projects. Reporting to the Director of Data Support, the DSE works closely with Client Services, Analytics and Tech teams as part of the Data team, translating client needs into actionable, client‑friendly deliverables.

Requirements

  • BS or BA or equivalent relevant experience
  • Willingness to be a creative problem‑solver and deliver results in a fast‑paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail with ability to suggest process‑streamlining improvements
  • Excellent communication skills with both technical and non‑technical audiences, verbal and written
  • Ability and willingness to learn new skills quickly
  • Capability to become an internal subject‑matter expert on various datasets and support other teams
  • Background check required
  • Familiarity or experience with SQL, BigQuery, Python or other relational database languages (preferred)
  • Experience using a Unix terminal or command‑line interface (preferred)
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure and large‑scale data workflows in AWS or GCP (preferred)
  • Project management experience (preferred)
  • Familiarity with Catalist data, progressive politics, voter files or large commercial datasets (preferred)
  • Interest or familiarity with using LLMs in secure environments (preferred)
